Prostagard-D 8 Capsule is used to relieve the urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH), such as a weak urine stream, difficulty passing urine, needing to urinate often, and waking at night to urinate. It contains silodosin and dutasteride, two medicines that work together to ease these symptoms.
Silodosin belongs to a class of medicines called alpha-blockers, and dutasteride belongs to a class called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. Take this capsule as prescribed, and swallow it whole with water. Continue taking it regularly, as it needs to be used long-term to control BPH symptoms effectively.
Certain lifestyle measures can help alongside this medicine. Reducing fluid intake in the evening, limiting caffeine and alcohol, and avoiding decongestant medicines that can worsen urinary symptoms may help improve your symptoms.
Tell your doctor before starting this medicine if you have low blood pressure, or any liver, kidney, or heart problems. Women, children, and pregnant women should avoid handling leaking or damaged capsules, due to the risk to a male unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you notice dizziness on standing, changes in ejaculation, or breast lumps or tenderness.
