CompositionSilocap-D Capsule is used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH) in men, and to reduce the risk of sudden inability to pass urine and the need for prostate surgery. It is a combination medicine containing silodosin 8mg, an alpha blocker, and dutasteride, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor.
Silodosin relaxes the prostate and bladder neck muscles for quick relief of urine flow, while dutasteride gradually shrinks the prostate over several months. Take it once a day with a meal, swallowed whole without opening or chewing, as prescribed. Full benefit may take several months.
Keeping a normal fluid intake during the day, cutting back on caffeine and alcohol, and avoiding large drinks before bed can help reduce night-time trips to the toilet.
This medicine is for men only. Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant, and children, must not handle leaking or broken capsules, as dutasteride can be absorbed through the skin and harm a male unborn baby. Do not donate blood during treatment and for 6 months afterwards. Your doctor will interpret PSA blood tests accordingly. Report breast lumps, pain or nipple discharge. If you are due to have cataract or glaucoma surgery, tell your eye surgeon that you take this medicine, as it can affect the pupil during surgery. It can cause dizziness, especially when starting, so rise slowly and do not drive if affected. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease or low blood pressure, and about other medicines you take. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
