OFM-DS Suspension is used in children to treat susceptible bacterial and protozoal intestinal infections.

Uses of OFM-DS Suspension are:

• Infectious Diarrhoea: Treats acute diarrhoea caused by susceptible bacterial or protozoal infection.
• Dysentery: Helps treat intestinal infection causing frequent stools that may contain mucus or blood.
• Intestinal Protozoal Infection: Treats susceptible protozoal infections when prescribed by your child's doctor.

Administer OFM-DS Suspension to your child as follows:

• Shake the bottle well before use.

• Measure the precise quantity recommended by your child's doctor.

• Follow the doctor's advised dosage and duration for OFM-DS Suspension.

OFM-DS Suspension is given orally to your child.

The OFM-DS Suspension comprises two active ingredients:

• Ofloxacin (100 mg): This ingredient falls under fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It hinders the functions of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes that are essential for DNA replication, recombination, and repair. This action leads to inhibition of bacterial cell division and growth.

• Metronidazole (200 mg): This component works by causing disruptions in the DNA synthesis of microbial organisms and inducing DNA strand breakage. The result is cell death. It primarily gets absorbed by anaerobic microorganisms.

• Keep OFM-DS Suspension in a tightly closed container.

• Store it below 30°C.

• Keep the container shielded from light.

• Always store this medicine where your child cannot reach it.

• Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids. This helps in managing bacterial and parasitic infections, and also helps prevent dehydration caused by diarrhoea.

• Ensure your child maintains good oral hygiene. Brushing twice daily can help manage dental infections, one of the conditions that OFM-DS Suspension is used for.
