Metrogyl 200 Tablet is an antimicrobial medicine used to treat infections caused by parasites and anaerobic bacteria. It is commonly prescribed for intestinal amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, dental abscesses, and for preventing post-surgical infections.
It contains metronidazole. It works by damaging the DNA of susceptible microorganisms, leading to their death. Take the tablet after meals to avoid stomach irritation, and ensure you finish the entire course even if symptoms improve quickly.
Maintaining proper personal hygiene and consuming clean, safe drinking water are important steps in preventing recurrent intestinal and parasitic infections. Avoid drinking alcohol during treatment and for 48 hours after the final dose to prevent severe nausea and headache.
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have liver disease, nerve disorders, or blood disorders, or if you are taking blood thinners. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive before starting this treatment.
