Metrogyl 200 Tablet is used to treat infections caused by amoebas and other protozoa, such as amoebiasis, giardiasis and trichomoniasis, as well as anaerobic bacterial infections of the digestive tract, skin and reproductive system.
It contains metronidazole, a nitroimidazole antibiotic. Take it as prescribed, generally with food to reduce stomach upset. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early, and when used with other medicines for Helicobacter pylori infection, take all medicines exactly as directed.
Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 24 to 48 hours after your last dose, as it can cause nausea, flushing and a fast heartbeat when combined with this medicine.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver problems, a blood disorder, or a nervous system condition. Report any numbness, tingling, or a dark colour change in your urine, and avoid this medicine in the first trimester of pregnancy unless advised by your doctor.
