Metrogyl P 2% Ointment 20gm

Metrogyl-P 2% Ointment is used to treat and prevent bacterial and protozoal skin infections, especially those caused by anaerobic organisms. It contains Metronidazole and helps manage infected wounds, ulcers such as bed sores, venous stasis ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers by reducing infection and supporting faster healing. The ointment's action controls infection and aids tissue repair, helping wounds heal more effectively and comfortably.

• Clean the affected skin area with soap and water before application.

• Dry the area with a clean towel.

• Use your fingertip or a clean cotton swab to apply the ointment on the affected area.

• Ensure you apply only a thin layer of ointment, enough to cover the area.

• Gently massage the ointment into the skin.

• After applying, wash your hands well to avoid spreading infection.

Metrogyl-P 2% Ointment contains two active ingredients that act on the body in the following way:

• Metronidazole (2%): This nitroimidazole antibiotic exhibits potent activity against anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites. Once inside the microbial cell, metronidazole transforms into an active metabolite that damages bacterial DNA and inhibits nucleic acid synthesis, leading to cell death. Its action is bactericidal against susceptible anaerobes.

• Povidone Iodine (10%): This iodophore complex slowly releases iodine when applied to the skin. The released iodine oxidises proteins critical for cell survival and replication, effectively killing bacteria, fungi, protozoans, and viruses. At higher concentrations, it also has some sporicidal activity.

The combination of these two ingredients offers comprehensive protection against a wide range of pathogenic microbes that can infect skin wounds.

• Store Metrogyl-P 2% Ointment at a temperature between 15-30°C.

• Keep it in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
