Metrogyl-P 2% Ointment is used to treat infected wounds and skin ulcers caused by bacterial and protozoal infections. It is effective in managing bed sores, diabetic foot ulcers, and venous ulcers by controlling infection and promoting faster tissue healing.

Metrogyl-P 2% Ointment is applied topically.

Metrogyl-P 2% Ointment contains two active ingredients that act on the body in the following way:

• Metronidazole (2%): This nitroimidazole antibiotic exhibits potent activity against anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites. Once inside the microbial cell, metronidazole transforms into an active metabolite that damages bacterial DNA and inhibits nucleic acid synthesis, leading to cell death. Its action is bactericidal against susceptible anaerobes.

• Povidone Iodine (10%): This iodophore complex slowly releases iodine when applied to the skin. The released iodine oxidises proteins critical for cell survival and replication, effectively killing bacteria, fungi, protozoans, and viruses. At higher concentrations, it also has some sporicidal activity.

The combination of these two ingredients offers comprehensive protection against a wide range of pathogenic microbes that can infect skin wounds.

• Store Metrogyl-P 2% Ointment at a temperature between 15-30°C.

• Keep it in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.

• Ensure the tube is tightly closed when not in use.
