Rifasmart 400 Tablet is used to treat traveller's diarrhoea caused by non-invasive E. coli. It is a single-ingredient antibiotic that acts mainly in the gut.
It is also used to manage irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea (IBS-D) and to reduce the risk of hepatic encephalopathy returning in people with liver disease. Take it in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor, and complete the full course even if your bowel movements return to normal early.
Drink enough fluids or oral rehydration solution to replace what you lose in diarrhoea, and use safe drinking water and freshly cooked food when travelling.
Before starting, tell your doctor about your medical conditions and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. This medicine is not effective for infections that have spread outside the digestive tract. Contact your doctor if you have severe abdominal pain or if the diarrhoea worsens. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
