Zimigut 400 Tablet is an antibiotic used to manage traveller's diarrhoea caused by certain bacteria, irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea (IBS-D), and to help reduce the risk of recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy in people with liver disease.
It contains rifaximin, an antibiotic that is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream, meaning it stays within the gut to target the infection directly. In people with liver disease, it reduces the amount of ammonia-producing bacteria in the gut, helping maintain mental clarity. Take it as prescribed for the full duration.
Staying well hydrated and eating easily digestible foods can support recovery, particularly if you have diarrhoea.
Follow your doctor's instructions for the full duration of the course, even if your bowel movements return to normal early. If you experience severe stomach pain or if the diarrhoea worsen, contact your doctor. This medicine is not effective for infections that have spread outside the digestive tract.
