Dirifa 400 Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat traveller's diarrhoea caused by certain strains of E. coli. Unlike most antibiotics, it stays mainly in the gut to target the infection directly, rather than being absorbed into the bloodstream.
It is also used to manage irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea, and to help reduce the risk of recurrent hepatic encephalopathy in patients with liver disease, by reducing ammonia-producing bacteria in the gut and preventing toxins from reaching the brain. Take it as prescribed by your doctor for the full course.
Drinking plenty of clean water, eating light, easily digestible meals, and maintaining good hand and food hygiene can help support recovery alongside this medicine.
Follow your doctor's instructions for the full duration of the course, even if your bowel movements return to normal early. Contact your doctor if you have severe stomach pain or if the diarrhoea worsens.
