Metrogyl DG Forte Gel is used to treat gum infections and inflammation, such as gingivitis and periodontitis. It is a combination medicine containing metronidazole 1.5%, an antibacterial, and chlorhexidine 0.5%, an antiseptic, and belongs to a group of medicines called oral anti-infectives.
This medicine is also used to help reduce dental plaque and treat other minor mouth infections. It helps reduce gum swelling, redness, bleeding and discomfort. Apply the gel gently to the affected gums with a clean finger or as your dentist directs, and do not rinse, eat or drink for about 30 minutes afterwards. Do not swallow the gel.
Brushing twice a day with a soft toothbrush, flossing daily and keeping regular dental check-ups are essential alongside this gel. Cutting down on smoking and sugary foods also helps gum health.
This gel is not suitable for children under 6 years of age. Before using it, tell your doctor or dentist if you are allergic to metronidazole or chlorhexidine, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It may cause a bitter or metallic taste and temporary brown staining of the teeth with longer use. Contact your dentist if irritation, swelling or burning persists. Do not stop using this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
