Tolvasca 15 Tablet is used to manage various health conditions including:

• Regulating low sodium levels in the blood, a condition known as hyponatremia.

• Helping manage heart failure, a condition where the heart doesn't pump blood as well as it should.

• Assisting in the management of cirrhosis, a liver disease characterised by scarring and poor function.

• Aiding in the control of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH), a condition where your body makes too much antidiuretic hormone.

Here's how you should take Tolvasca 15 Tablet:

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it.

• You can take the tablet without worrying about meal times.

• Avoid taking more than your doctor has prescribed.

• It's necessary to continue taking this medication until your doctor advises you to stop. Always consult your doctor before making any changes to your dosage or schedule.

Tolvasca 15 Tablet is taken orally.

Tolvasca 15 Tablet contains Tolvaptan (15 mg), and its activity in the body works as follows:

• Vasopressin V2-Receptor Antagonism: Tolvaptan operates by blocking the binding of vasopressin, an antidiuretic hormone, to V2 receptors in the kidney. Vasopressin is a hormone that typically helps to regulate water balance in the body.

• Increased Urine Production: By preventing the action of vasopressin on the V2 receptors, Tolvaptan inhibits the absorption of water by the kidney. This leads to an increase in urine production, a process known as aquaresis.

• Elevation of Serum Sodium Concentration: As more water is excreted through urine, the amount of water retained in the body decreases. This reduction in water retention helps to increase the concentration of sodium in the blood, thereby managing hyponatremia.

• Keep Tolvasca 15 Tablet at room temperature, ideally between 20°C to 25°C.

• Store the medicine in its original packaging to shield it from light and moisture.

• Securely place the tablet out of reach of children.

• Always check the expiry date before use and never consume post-expiry.

• To manage heart failure, a condition for which Tolvasca 15 Tablet is used, you should maintain a low-sodium diet. This means limiting your intake of salt and processed foods.

• For patients with cirrhosis, another condition managed by this tablet, it's beneficial to avoid alcoholic beverages. This helps protect your liver from further damage.
