It is a combination medicine containing tamsulosin (relaxes the muscles of the prostate and bladder neck) and dutasteride (shrinks the prostate), and belongs to classes of medicines called alpha-blockers and 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.
This medicine works by relaxing the muscles around the prostate and bladder neck for quicker relief of urinary flow, while dutasteride lowers the hormone that makes the prostate grow, so the gland shrinks over time. It helps with difficulty starting urination, frequent urination, weak flow and the feeling of incomplete emptying. Swallow the tablet whole after the same meal each day and use it for as long as your doctor advises, as full benefit may take several months.
Limiting fluids before bedtime, reducing caffeine and alcohol, and emptying the bladder fully when you urinate can help reduce urinary symptoms alongside this medicine. Regular check-ups help monitor prostate health.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, liver problems, a history of fainting, or are taking other medicines, including erectile dysfunction medicines. It is not for use in women or children; women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle crushed or broken tablets, as dutasteride can be absorbed through the skin and may harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor before any cataract surgery, and stand up slowly to avoid dizziness.
