Dosage Forms Available

• Dutasteride + Tamsulosin can be taken orally (tablet and capsule).

Age and Dose Restrictions

• This combination can be used in adults above 18 years of age.

Contraindications

• It is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Dutasteride or Tamsulosin, or its combination. It is also contraindicated in pregnant women, breastfeeding women, children and women with childbearing potential.

Medications to Avoid with This Drug

• Avoid taking other alpha-blockers, PDE5 inhibitors used to help achieve or maintain an erection (vardenafil, sildenafil citrate and tadalafil), antihypertensives (verapamil or diltiazem), HIV medications (ritonavir or indinavir), antifungals (itraconazole or ketoconazole), antidepressants (nefazodone or paroxetine), gastric acid reducers (cimetidine), anticoagulants (warfarin), antibiotics (erythromycin) and NSAIDs (diclofenac). These medications may alter the safety and effectiveness of Dutasteride + Tamsulosin.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Taking more than the prescribed dose of Dutasteride + Tamsulosin may cause a significant drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting, particularly when standing up quickly. If an overdose is suspected, lie down flat and seek medical assistance. Do not attempt to manage this at home without guidance from a healthcare professional.
• If you miss a dose of Dutasteride + Tamsulosin, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take two doses together to compensate for a missed dose.

Management of Side Effects

• The side effects of Dutasteride + Tamsulosin are usually temporary and resolve once the medication is discontinued. However, it is important to seek guidance from a doctor first before discontinuing the combination.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

• This combination may cause dizziness and lightheadedness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do other activities that require mental alertness or coordination until you know how this medication affects you. 

Caution in Other Conditions

• Caution is advised in patients planning for cataract surgery, prostate cancer and patients with severe kidney or liver problems.

Special Dietary & Lifestyle Recommendation

• Do not donate blood until 6 months after the last dose of this combination.
• Use protection during sexual intercourse as Dutasteride may affect the normal development of a male baby.
• Don’t stop taking Dutasteride + Tamsulosin without talking to your doctor first.
• Constipation can put extra strain on the bladder and worsen BPH symptoms. Adequate fibre intake promotes regular bowel movements, preventing constipation. Include fibre-rich foods like whole grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables.
• Take your time when urinating, ensuring you empty your bladder. Avoid straining and rushing during urination, which may contribute to urinary retention.
