CompositionMegapen Capsule is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, soft tissues, chest, ears, nose and throat, especially those caused by staphylococcus bacteria. It is a combination antibiotic medicine containing ampicillin and cloxacillin, both of which belong to a class of antibiotics called penicillins.
This medicine is also used to treat infected wounds, boils, abscesses and some bone infections, and to help prevent infection after certain operations. Take the capsule on an empty stomach, about an hour before or 2 hours after food, at evenly spaced times. Complete the full course prescribed by your doctor.
Keeping wounds clean and covered, resting and drinking enough fluids can support recovery. Taking antibiotics only when prescribed helps reduce antibiotic resistance.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin, cephalosporins or any other antibiotic, have glandular fever, or have kidney or liver disease, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop taking it and seek medical help straight away if you develop a widespread rash, swelling of the face or throat, or breathing difficulty. Contact your doctor if you have severe or watery diarrhoea. Do not stop taking this medicine for any other reason unless your doctor advises you to do so.
