Lariago Injection 2ml is used in the management and prevention of malaria caused by chloroquine-sensitive parasites, and sometimes to treat amoebiasis outside the intestine. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing chloroquine, and belongs to a class of medicines called antimalarials (4-aminoquinolines).
This medicine works by interfering with the way malaria parasites break down and use haemoglobin inside red blood cells, which stops them growing and surviving. It helps control malaria symptoms such as fever, chills, sweating and weakness. It is given by a doctor or healthcare professional, usually when close medical supervision is needed or oral treatment is not suitable.
Rest, drink plenty of fluids and complete the full prescribed treatment even if your symptoms improve earlier. Protecting yourself from mosquito bites with nets and repellents can help prevent malaria from spreading or returning.
Before receiving this medicine, tell your doctor if you have heart disease, liver or kidney problems, psoriasis, porphyria, epilepsy, hearing problems, diabetes, low potassium or magnesium levels, or any past vision problems, and tell them about all other medicines and supplements you take, as some can affect heart rhythm. Report any changes in your vision to your doctor promptly.
