Glipy MET 500 Tablet is used for the following:

• Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults: This medicine is particularly helpful for those who have not achieved satisfactory blood sugar control with diet, exercise and metformin alone.

• Assistance in preventing serious complications associated with diabetes: These include kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, limb amputations, and cardiovascular issues.

Here's how you should take Glipy MET 500 Tablet:

• Swallow the tablet whole with water.

• Do not crush, chew or break the tablet.

• It is advisable to take this medicine with your evening meal.

• Make sure you follow the dosage as prescribed by your doctor.

• Remember to continue your regular diet and exercise while taking this medication.

Glipy MET 500 Tablet contains two active ingredients:

• Metformin (500 mg): As a biguanide medication, metformin primarily works by reducing the production of glucose in your liver. It also decreases the absorption of glucose from your gut and improves how sensitive your body's cells are to insulin. This does not promote insulin secretion, hence it's less likely to cause low blood sugar levels.

• Vildagliptin (50 mg): This is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It blocks an enzyme in your body that breaks down incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By prolonging these hormones' activity, vildagliptin enhances insulin secretion from pancreatic beta-cells and suppresses glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha-cells when glucose levels are elevated. Consequently, vildagliptin helps reduce blood sugar levels.
