Vilavos M Sr 500 Tablet 10

Vilavos M Sr 500 Tablet 10 is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. 

Uses of Vilavos M Sr 500 Tablet 10 are:

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus: This medicine helps control blood glucose (sugar) levels in adults when diet and exercise alone are not enough.
• Inadequate control with metformin alone: It is used when your blood glucose is not well controlled despite taking the maximum dose of metformin that you can tolerate.
• Replacement of separate tablets: If you are already taking metformin and vildagliptin as two separate tablets, this combination simplifies your treatment into a single tablet.
• Triple therapy with a sulfonylurea: This medicine may be combined with a sulfonylurea (another type of diabetes medicine) when metformin and the sulfonylurea together do not provide adequate glucose control.

Follow these instructions whilst taking Vilavos M Sr 500 Tablet 10:

• Take the tablet by mouth with or just after food to reduce stomach upset.
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
• Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet, as this affects how the medicine is released in your body.
• Do not take more than the dose recommended by your doctor.
• Consult your doctor for specific advice on how to use this medicine.

Vilavos M Sr 500 Tablet 10 is taken orally.

Vilavos M Sr 500 Tablet 10 contains two active ingredients that work together to control blood glucose:

• Metformin (500 mg): This medicine reduces the amount of glucose (sugar) produced by the liver, mainly by blocking gluconeogenesis (the process by which the liver makes new glucose) and glycogenolysis (the breakdown of stored glucose). It also improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, meaning your muscles can take up and use glucose more effectively.
• Vildagliptin (50 mg): This medicine blocks an enzyme called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which normally breaks down incretin hormones. By inhibiting this enzyme, vildagliptin increases levels of active incretins, which enhance glucose-dependent insulin secretion (insulin release that depends on blood glucose levels) from the pancreas and reduce inappropriate glucagon secretion (release of a hormone that raises blood glucose).

• Store the medicine below 30°C in its original blister strip to protect it from moisture.
• Keep it in the original packaging until you are ready to take it.
• Store it out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not use any tablet if the blister is damaged.
• Check the expiry date on the pack and do not use the medicine after that date.

• Include vitamin B12-rich foods: Include foods such as dairy products, eggs and fortified cereals as part of your regular diet, particularly during long-term metformin treatment, which can reduce vitamin B12 absorption.
• Stay physically active: Include regular physical activity appropriate for your fitness level, as exercise forms an important part of type 2 diabetes management alongside the prescribed medicine.
