CompositionEmpaone 25 Tablet 10 is used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes, together with diet and exercise. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing empagliflozin 25mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called SGLT2 inhibitors.
This medicine is also used to reduce the risk of death from heart disease in adults with type 2 diabetes who already have heart or blood vessel disease. It works by helping the kidneys remove extra sugar in the urine. Take it in the morning, with or without food, as prescribed, and drink enough fluids, as you will pass more urine.
A balanced diet, regular physical activity and keeping a healthy weight are essential for diabetes control. Keep the genital area clean and dry to reduce the risk of yeast infections.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, type 1 diabetes, a history of ketoacidosis, frequent urinary infections, or low blood pressure, and about other medicines you take, especially insulin, water tablets or other diabetes medicines. Your doctor may pause it before surgery or if you are unwell and not eating. Do not take it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help straight away if you have nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, deep or fast breathing or unusual tiredness, even if your blood sugar is not very high, or pain, redness or swelling in the genital area with fever. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
