CompositionUpadoz 15 Tablet is an immunosuppressant medicine used to manage moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults who have not responded well to, or cannot tolerate, one or more TNF blockers. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing upadacitinib, and belongs to a class of medicines called JAK inhibitors.
This medicine works by blocking Janus kinase enzymes inside immune cells, which calms the overactive immune response that causes inflammation in the colon and rectum. It is also used to manage other immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, atopic dermatitis, ankylosing spondylitis, non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis, Crohn's disease and giant cell arteritis. It is an extended-release tablet, so swallow it whole without crushing, chewing or splitting it, and take it as your doctor prescribes.
Because this medicine lowers the activity of your immune system, try to avoid close contact with people who have infections and report any fever or signs of infection to your doctor early. Keep your follow-up visits and blood tests so your doctor can monitor your response.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have an active infection, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, liver or kidney problems, heart disease, blood clots or cancer, and about any other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Medicines of this class can increase the risk of serious infections and blood clots.
