Empagliflozin (25 Mg)

Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 is used to manage type 2 diabetes. It is a single-ingredient SGLT2 inhibitor medicine containing empagliflozin.

This medicine lowers blood sugar levels when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate control in people with type 2 diabetes. It also helps slow the progression of chronic kidney disease and protect kidney function.

Regular meals, a balanced diet and physical activity can support blood sugar control alongside this medicine.

Before starting, tell your doctor about your medical conditions and allergies. Tell the doctor about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Attend any monitoring appointments advised by your doctor. Report persistent or serious side effects to your doctor. Do not stop taking or using the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.

Uses of Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 are:

Type 2 Diabetes: Lowers blood sugar levels when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate control.
Chronic Kidney Disease: Helps slow the progression of chronic kidney disease and protect kidney function.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.
Take the medicine at the same time every day.
Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.

Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 is taken orally.

Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 may cause some side effects that are usually mild and go away as your body adjusts to the medicine.

A few common side effects of Empatrol 25 Tablet 10:

Urinary and genital: genital yeast infections (thrush) and passing more urine than usual.
Other: increased thirst, rash or itching, constipation, and raised cholesterol on blood tests.

If any side effect does not improve or becomes serious, speak to your doctor. Do not stop taking the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.

Management Of Side Effects:

Most side effects are temporary, generally mild, and resolve upon suspending the use of Empatrol 25 Tablet 10. However, if you experience serious side effects or worsening symptoms, consult your doctor.

Genital infections: Maintain good hygiene; antifungal treatment may be recommended by your doctor.
Increased urination and thirst: Drink adequate fluids to stay hydrated.
Constipation: Eat fibre-rich foods and drink more water.

Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 contains empagliflozin (25 mg):

Empagliflozin blocks the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys, preventing glucose reabsorption into the bloodstream. This leads to increased glucose elimination through urine, thereby lowering blood sugar levels. Additionally, it helps reduce cardiovascular risks, supports kidney function, and improves outcomes in patients with heart failure.

Pregnancy

Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 is not recommended if you are pregnant. It may harm the unborn child. Consult your doctor for alternative treatment options.

Breastfeeding

Use Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 with caution while breastfeeding. It is not known whether empagliflozin passes into breast milk.

Alcohol

Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) and dehydration. Avoid excessive intake while on Empatrol 25 Tablet 10.

Liver

Patients with severe liver impairment should use Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 cautiously, as dose adjustments or alternative medicines may be required.

Kidney

Kidney function should be assessed before and during treatment. In severe kidney disease, your doctor may recommend a lower dose or discontinuation.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 may cause dizziness, especially if taken with insulin or sulphonylureas that lower blood sugar. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you feel unwell.

Allergy

Do not take Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 if you are allergic to empagliflozin or any other ingredient in the formulation. Report symptoms such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing immediately.

Children

Empatrol 25 Tablet 10 can be used in children aged 10 years and above with type 2 diabetes. It is not recommended for younger children.

Older Patients

Over Dose
