CompositionDutanol-0.5 Tablet is a medicine used in adult men to treat and manage an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It helps improve urinary flow, reduce urinary symptoms, and lower the risk of sudden inability to pass urine (acute urinary retention) and the need for prostate surgery.
It contains dutasteride, a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. Take it as prescribed with or without food, and swallow the tablet whole. It can take several months to notice significant improvement, so continue taking it regularly even if your symptoms do not improve immediately.
Lifestyle modifications can help manage urinary symptoms alongside medicine. These include limiting fluid intake before bedtime, reducing caffeine and alcohol consumption, avoiding sudden large fluid intake, and practising pelvic floor exercises as advised by your doctor.
Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you have liver disease or are taking other prescription medicines. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant must not handle crushed or broken tablets. Speak to your doctor if you notice breast enlargement or tenderness, or any new or worsening urinary symptoms.
