AZR Tablet is used to help prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted kidney by calming the immune system. It contains azathioprine, an immunosuppressant, and is also used to manage severe rheumatoid arthritis when other treatments have not worked well enough.
Azathioprine works by suppressing the activity of the immune system, which reduces the risk of the body attacking and rejecting a transplanted organ, and in rheumatoid arthritis it helps calm the overactive immune response that drives joint inflammation.
Take this tablet at the same time each day, with food to reduce stomach upset, exactly as your doctor prescribes, and never change your dose without medical advice.
Your doctor will arrange regular blood tests to monitor your blood counts and liver function during treatment, since azathioprine can affect both. Because this medicine suppresses the immune system, avoid contact with people who have infections, and report fever, sore throat, or unusual bruising or bleeding to your doctor promptly.
