CompositionTamsin 0.4 Tablet is used to relieve the urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH) in men, such as a weak stream, difficulty starting and needing to pass urine often, including at night. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing tamsulosin 0.4mg in a prolonged-release form, and belongs to a class of medicines called alpha blockers.
This medicine relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck so urine flows more easily. It relieves symptoms but does not shrink the prostate. Take one tablet a day after the same meal, swallowed whole with water, without crushing or chewing.
Cutting down on fluids, caffeine and alcohol in the evening, and not holding urine for long can help reduce symptoms.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, low blood pressure or fainting episodes, and about other medicines you take, especially other blood pressure medicines and medicines for erectile dysfunction. If you are due to have cataract or glaucoma surgery, tell your eye surgeon that you take this medicine, as it can affect the pupil during surgery. It can cause dizziness, especially when starting, so rise slowly and do not drive if affected. Contact your doctor if you faint or feel very dizzy. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
