This medicine is used for colicky pain from gallstones or kidney stones, and when medicines cannot be taken by mouth. It relaxes the smooth muscle in the walls of these organs, easing spasm and pain. It is given by a healthcare professional as an injection into a muscle or vein, and your doctor will decide the dose.
Resting and drinking enough fluids, unless your doctor advises otherwise, can support recovery. For kidney stone pain, drinking plenty of water may help.
Before receiving this injection, tell your doctor if you have heart disease or heart block, low blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, or porphyria, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It can cause dizziness, especially when given into a vein, so rest afterwards and do not drive if affected. Tell your healthcare team straight away if you feel faint or have a fast heartbeat. Do not stop the treatment unless your doctor advises you to do so.
