Sitaglo M 100 Tablet is used to control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when a single medicine, together with diet and exercise, is not enough. It is a combination medicine containing sitagliptin 100mg, a DPP-4 inhibitor, and metformin in an extended-release form, a biguanide.
Sitagliptin helps the body release more insulin after meals, while metformin reduces the sugar made by the liver and helps the body use insulin better. The extended-release form may cause less stomach upset. Take it once a day with the evening meal, swallowed whole without crushing or chewing, as prescribed.
A balanced diet with controlled carbohydrates, regular activity, keeping a healthy weight and checking your blood sugar as advised are essential.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, heart failure, a history of pancreatitis, or drink alcohol heavily, and about other medicines you take. Your doctor may pause it before surgery or scans using contrast dye, and if you become dehydrated or very unwell with vomiting or diarrhoea. Long-term metformin use can lower vitamin B12, so your doctor may check it. Do not take it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for severe stomach pain spreading to the back, blistering skin or signs of an allergic reaction. Seek urgent help for unusual muscle pain, fast breathing, stomach pain, feeling very cold or extreme tiredness, which can rarely signal a serious condition called lactic acidosis. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
