It is also used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and to prevent these conditions after hip or knee replacement surgery, helping lower the chances of future clot-related complications.

• Swallow the tablet whole with water.

• Do not crush or chew the tablet.

• The medicine can be taken with or without food.

• Always take your dose at approximately 12-hour intervals, such as morning and evening.

• Prevents fibrin formation: By blocking Factor Xa, apixaban effectively prevents the conversion of fibrinogen (a protein available in your blood) into fibrin, another protein that's integral for blood clot formation.
