It contains metoprolol succinate, a beta-blocker that helps slow down the heart rate and relaxes blood vessels. Take the tablet with or without food as prescribed. Swallow it whole with water; do not crush or chew extended-release tablets. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as doing so can cause a sharp increase in blood pressure or chest pain.
Lifestyle changes support effective blood pressure control. Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy, reduce salt and sodium intake, exercise regularly, maintain a healthy weight, and limit alcohol consumption as recommended by your doctor.
Tell your doctor if you have asthma, severe circulation problems, slow heart rate, heart failure, diabetes, or liver disease before starting treatment. Report symptoms such as severe dizziness, unusually slow pulse, cold hands or feet, or shortness of breath to your healthcare provider promptly.
