Nitrobact 100 Capsule is used to treat simple bacterial urinary tract infections, such as cystitis (infection of the bladder), in adults. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing nitrofurantoin, and belongs to a class of medicines called urinary antibacterials.
It is also used, usually at a lower long-term dose, to prevent urinary tract infections that keep coming back. This medicine works mainly in the urine, so it is suited to bladder infections rather than infections elsewhere in the body. Take the capsule with food or milk, which helps the body absorb it and reduces stomach discomfort. Use it for the full duration prescribed by your doctor.
Drinking plenty of water through the day, not holding urine for long periods, and keeping the genital area clean can support urinary health. Cranberry products do not replace this medicine, so keep taking it as prescribed.
Before starting this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, lung problems, diabetes, anaemia, nerve problems or G6PD deficiency, and about any other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It may colour your urine dark yellow or brown, which is harmless. Seek medical advice if you notice breathlessness, a persistent cough, chest pain, tingling or numbness, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
