Lariago Suspension 120ml is used to treat malaria caused by chloroquine-sensitive Plasmodium parasites and may also be used to prevent malaria in areas where chloroquine-sensitive malaria occurs. It contains chloroquine, which belongs to the class of medications called antimalarial and antiprotozoal agents.
This medicine may also be prescribed for extraintestinal amoebiasis, an infection caused by Entamoeba histolytica that spreads outside the intestine, particularly to the liver. In malaria, chloroquine acts against susceptible malaria parasites in the blood, helping clear the infection and relieve symptoms such as fever, chills, sweating, headache and body aches.
Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dose and duration depend on the condition being treated, your age and body weight. Complete the prescribed treatment even if you start feeling better. Chloroquine should not be relied upon for treating or preventing malaria in areas where the malaria parasite is resistant to it.
Tell your doctor if you have heart rhythm problems, epilepsy, psoriasis, porphyria, liver or kidney problems, or pre-existing eye or retinal disease. Seek medical advice if you develop changes in vision, severe dizziness, seizures, unusual muscle weakness or an abnormal heartbeat. Chloroquine overdose can be life-threatening, particularly in children, so keep this medicine out of their reach.
