CompositionEplehef 25 Tablet 10 is used to treat heart failure with reduced pumping function, including after a recent heart attack, to help people live longer and reduce hospital admissions. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing eplerenone, which belongs to a class of medicines called aldosterone antagonists.
This medicine blocks the hormone aldosterone, helping the body remove extra salt and water while keeping potassium, which reduces strain on the heart. It is also used to treat high blood pressure. It is taken alongside other heart failure medicines. Take it with or without food, as prescribed; your doctor will usually start low and increase the dose.
Following a low-salt diet, weighing yourself regularly, staying active within your limits and not smoking support heart health. Avoid salt substitutes and potassium supplements unless your doctor advises.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have high potassium, kidney or liver disease, or diabetes, and about all other medicines you take, especially ACE inhibitors, ARBs, potassium-sparing water tablets, painkillers, and certain antifungals or antibiotics. Your doctor will check your potassium and kidney function regularly, especially in the first weeks. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help if you have muscle weakness, an irregular or slow heartbeat, or feel faint. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
