Taking the tablet at the exact times prescribed helps keep movement steady and prevents the 'wearing-off' effect, where symptoms return before the next dose. A protein-heavy meal can reduce how well it is absorbed, so your doctor may advise taking it 30 minutes before or after eating.
Do not stop the medicine suddenly, as this can cause a serious reaction with muscle stiffness and fever. Tell your doctor straight away about sudden mood changes, hallucinations, or strong unusual urges (such as gambling or overspending).
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, heart disease, or a history of skin cancers such as melanoma.
