ZIMIGUT 200 Tablet is a medicine used to treat bacterial infections in the gut, including Traveller's Diarrhoea caused by Escherichia coli. It is also used to manage irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea (IBS-D) and hepatic encephalopathy, a brain condition associated with severe liver disease.
It contains rifaximin, an antibiotic that works locally within the digestive tract and is minimally absorbed into the bloodstream. It should be swallowed whole with water as prescribed by your doctor. Continue taking the medicine for the full duration advised, even if symptoms improve early.
Maintaining proper hydration and hygiene forms an important part of recovery from gastrointestinal infections. Drink plenty of safe fluids, eat light and easily digestible meals, and wash your hands regularly as advised by your doctor.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have severe liver impairment or bloody diarrhoea. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding. Seek immediate medical advice if your symptoms do not improve after a few days.
