Topcid-40 Tablet is a medicine used to treat conditions associated with excessive stomach acid production. It is commonly prescribed to manage gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, acid indigestion, and to treat or prevent peptic ulcers in the stomach and duodenum.
It contains famotidine, which belongs to a group of medicines called H2-receptor antagonists (or acid blockers). It works by blocking histamine receptors in the stomach lining, which reduces the volume and acidity of the gastric juices produced, promoting healing of the food pipe and stomach lining.
The tablet can be taken with or without food, but taking it before bedtime or before meals as directed by your doctor may provide symptom relief depending on the condition being treated. Avoid skipping doses or stopping the medicine without consulting your doctor, even if your symptoms improve, to ensure adequate healing.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any kidney or liver conditions, or if you are taking other acid-reducing medications. Certain dietary modifications, such as avoiding spicy or fatty foods, caffeine, and smoking, can help improve symptom control. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use.
