Famtac 40 Tablet is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It is also effective for managing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and providing relief from occasional heartburn and ""sour stomach."" This medication is often used as a preventive measure for patients taking long-term pain relievers (NSAIDs) that can irritate the stomach lining.
This tablet contains Famotidine, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the histamine receptors in the stomach lining, which are responsible for signaling the production of acid. By reducing stomach acid production, this medicine allows existing ulcers to heal and helps prevent new ones from forming, especially during the night when acid levels often peak.
Take this medication as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily at bedtime or twice daily (morning and night). It can be taken with or without food. If you are using it to prevent heartburn from specific foods, take it 15 to 60 minutes before eating. Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, as your dosage may need to be adjusted for safety.
