CompositionThyronorm 200mcg Tablet is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) in people who need a higher dose of thyroid hormone, and to suppress thyroid growth after treatment for thyroid cancer. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing levothyroxine 200mcg, a man-made form of the natural thyroid hormone thyroxine.
This medicine replaces the missing hormone and, at higher doses after thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine for cancer, lowers the level of TSH to reduce the chance of the cancer returning. It is also used for some types of goitre (enlarged thyroid). Take it once a day on an empty stomach, 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast, with water.
Take it at the same time every day and leave at least 4 hours between this medicine and calcium or iron supplements, antacids, soya products and high-fibre cereals, as they reduce absorption. Attend all thyroid blood tests.
This is a high strength, so it is used only when blood tests show you need it; it must not be used for weight loss. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have heart disease, an irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, diabetes, adrenal problems or osteoporosis, and about other medicines you take. Older adults and people with heart disease usually need lower doses. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for chest pain, a fast or irregular heartbeat, severe shaking, heavy sweating or unexplained weight loss, as the dose may be too high. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
