CompositionThyronorm 88mcg Tablet is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), when the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing levothyroxine 88mcg, a man-made form of the natural thyroid hormone thyroxine.
This medicine replaces the missing hormone, easing symptoms such as tiredness, weight gain, feeling cold, constipation, dry skin and low mood. The 88mcg strength allows the dose to be adjusted precisely based on blood tests. Take it once a day on an empty stomach, 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast, with water.
Take it at the same time every day and leave at least 4 hours between this medicine and calcium or iron supplements, antacids, soya products and high-fibre cereals, as they reduce absorption. Attend all thyroid blood tests.
This medicine must not be used for weight loss, as it can cause serious side effects in people with normal thyroid levels. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, adrenal problems or osteoporosis, and about other medicines you take, especially blood thinners and diabetes medicines. Keep taking it during pregnancy and tell your doctor, as the dose often needs increasing. Contact your doctor if you have chest pain, a fast or irregular heartbeat, shaking, sweating, weight loss or difficulty sleeping, as the dose may be too high. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
