Telsar A Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults when a single medicine has not controlled it well enough. It is a combination medicine containing telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker.
Telmisartan blocks a hormone that narrows the blood vessels, while amlodipine relaxes the muscle in the vessel walls. Together they lower blood pressure more than either medicine alone and reduce long-term strain on the heart, brain and kidneys. Take it once a day at the same time, with or without food, and continue even when you feel well.
Cutting down on salt, staying active, keeping a healthy weight and limiting alcohol support blood pressure control.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, as it can harm an unborn baby; tell your doctor straight away if you become pregnant. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, narrowing of the kidney arteries, high potassium, heart valve disease or dehydration, and about other medicines you take, especially potassium supplements, water tablets or painkillers. Your doctor may check your kidney function and potassium. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you feel faint, have marked ankle swelling or a fast heartbeat. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
