Rifguard 400 Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat traveller's diarrhoea, to manage irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea, and to help prevent the confusion of hepatic encephalopathy returning in people with liver disease.
It contains rifaximin, which stays mostly in the gut rather than being absorbed into the blood. It works by acting directly on the bacteria in the bowel.
Take it as prescribed, and complete the full course even if your bowel movements return to normal early.
It does not treat infections outside the gut. Tell your doctor about any liver problems before use, and contact them if you develop severe abdominal pain or the diarrhoea worsens.
