Merobax 500 Mg Injection 1 is an antibiotic injection used to treat severe bacterial infections of the skin, lungs, abdomen, urinary tract, blood and brain (such as meningitis). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing meropenem (the vial also contains sodium carbonate as an added ingredient), and belongs to a class of medicines called carbapenem antibiotics.
This medicine works by killing the bacteria that cause these infections. It is also used for intra-abdominal and respiratory tract infections including pneumonia, septicaemia, skin and soft tissue infections, and febrile neutropenia (fever with a low white blood cell count). It is given by a doctor or healthcare professional, and the dose and duration are set by your doctor.
Drinking enough fluids and resting help your body recover during treatment. Complete the full course your doctor prescribes, as stopping early can allow the infection to return.
Before receiving this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, a history of seizures, or an allergy to antibiotics such as penicillins or cephalosporins, and tell them about any other medicines you take, especially valproate. It treats bacterial infections only, and unnecessary use can lead to antibiotic resistance. Tell your doctor promptly about a severe rash, swelling or severe, persistent diarrhoea.
