Chloroquine (500 Mg)

Lariago-DS Tablet is used to treat and prevent malaria caused by chloroquine-sensitive parasites. It is used to treat active infection and to prevent malaria in people travelling to areas where such malaria is present.

It contains chloroquine, an antimalarial. It works by killing the malaria parasites in the blood, which controls the infection.

Take it strictly as prescribed; the dose differs for treatment and for prevention.

Tell your doctor about any heart, liver or vision problems before starting, and report blurred vision or dizziness during treatment.

Lariago-DS Tablet is used to treat and prevent malaria.

Uses of Lariago-DS Tablet are:

Malaria Treatment: Clears malaria parasites in the blood to treat the infection.
Malaria Prevention: Helps prevent malaria in travellers to at-risk areas.
Parasite Clearance: Treats chloroquine-sensitive blood-stage parasites; it does not by itself prevent transmission or relapse from liver stages.

Remember to take Lariago-DS Tablet after eating to avoid stomach upset.
Even if you start feeling better, do not stop taking the medicine abruptly as this may result in treatment failure and incomplete eradication of the malaria-causing parasites.
Consult your doctor before starting the medication to get specific instructions tailored to your condition.

Oral

Lariago-DS Tablet may cause some side effects that are usually mild and go away as your body adjusts to the medicine.

A few common side effects of Lariago-DS Tablet:

Digestive: Feeling sick (nausea), vomiting and loss of appetite.
Nervous System: Headache.
Skin: A rash and itching in some people.

If side effects do not improve or become serious, speak to your doctor right away.

Management Of Side Effects:

While taking Lariago-DS Tablet, you can try these natural ways to manage the side effects:

Headaches: Resting in a quiet, dimly lit room and applying a cold compress to your forehead can help relieve headaches.
Nausea: Sipping on ginger tea or nibbling on plain crackers can alleviate feelings of nausea.
Vomiting: Stay hydrated by sipping small amounts of clear fluids, like water or electrolyte solutions, throughout the day.
Rashes and itching: Apply calamine lotion or aloe vera gel to soothe the affected area and avoid scratching.
Loss of appetite: Opt for small, frequent meals with nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, and protein-rich sources to stimulate your appetite.

Chloroquine works by targeting and eliminating the parasite responsible for causing malaria.
The active ingredient in Lariago-DS Tablet interferes with various stages of the parasite's life cycle within the human body. It inhibits the parasite's ability to replicate inside red blood cells and disrupt its metabolism.
Chloroquine also affects the parasite's ability to obtain nutrients from its host.
By altering the acidity inside red blood cells where the parasite resides during its lifecycle, chloroquine creates an inhospitable environment for the parasite, leading to its death.
Additionally, chloroquine has been found to possess anti-inflammatory properties that may contribute to its efficacy in managing malaria-related symptoms.

Pregnancy

There are no well-controlled studies evaluating the safety and efficacy of chloroquine in pregnant women.

Hence, the usage of chloroquine during pregnancy should be avoided except in the prophylaxis or treatment of malaria when the benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

Breastfeeding

Due to the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants from chloroquine, your doctor should decide whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue Lariago-DS Tablet.

Alcohol

It is advisable to avoid consuming alcohol while using Lariago-DS Tablet, as chloroquine concentrates in the liver

Liver

Since chloroquine is known to concentrate in the liver, it should be used with caution in patients with hepatic disease or alcoholism or in conjunction with known hepatotoxic drugs.

Kidney

This medicine is known to be substantially excreted by the kidney, and the risk of toxic reactions may be greater in patients with impaired renal function.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

Ocular disorders have been reported in patients on the long-term or high-dosage usage of chloroquine.

Tamoxifen: Concomitant use of chloroquine with drugs known to induce retinal toxicity such as tamoxifen is not recommended

Drug-Disease Interactions

Preexisting auditory damage: Chloroquine should be administered with caution. In case of any defects in hearing, chloroquine should be immediately discontinued, and the patient closely observed.
Epilepsy: Chloroquine may increase the risk of convulsions in patients with a history of epilepsy.
G6PD deficiency: Lariago-DS Tablet should be used cautiously in individuals with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, as it can cause severe hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells).
Liver disease: Patients with liver disease may require dose adjustments or close monitoring when taking Lariago-DS Tablet due to potential changes in drug metabolism.
Kidney disease: Individuals with kidney disease may need dosage adjustments or close monitoring while on Lariago-DS Tablet due to altered drug clearance.
Heart disease: Lariago-DS Tablet should be used cautiously in patients with heart rhythm disorders or a history of QT prolongation, as it may increase the risk of cardiac arrhythmias.
