CompositionFolitrax-5 Tablet is used to manage autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. It is a single-ingredient antimetabolite medicine containing methotrexate.
It is also used to treat certain types of cancer, and in autoimmune conditions it helps reduce pain, swelling and joint damage. Swallow the tablet whole without chewing or crushing it, in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor. For rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis it is usually taken once a week, not every day, and taking it more often by mistake can cause serious harm.
Take a folic acid supplement if your doctor advises it, and avoid alcohol to protect your liver.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take, including painkillers such as NSAIDs. This medicine must not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Regular blood tests are needed. Report persistent mouth sores, unusual bruising or bleeding, or marked tiredness immediately. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
