Doxy-1 L-DR Forte Capsule is used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including chest, urinary and sexually transmitted infections. It is a combination medicine containing doxycycline, a tetracycline antibiotic, and lactic acid bacillus, a probiotic (friendly bacteria).
This medicine is also used to treat acne, scrub typhus and some other infections, and to help prevent malaria in travellers when prescribed. The probiotic is added to help support the natural balance of gut bacteria during antibiotic treatment. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water while sitting or standing, and stay upright for at least 30 minutes afterwards. Avoid taking it at the same time as milk, antacids, or iron or calcium supplements.
Protect your skin from strong sunlight during treatment by using sunscreen and covering up, as this medicine can make the skin burn more easily. Completing the full course helps clear the infection and reduces antibiotic resistance.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and it should not be given to children under 8 years of age, as it can affect developing teeth and bones. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, lupus or myasthenia gravis, and about other medicines you take, including contraceptives and blood thinners. Contact your doctor if you have severe headache with blurred vision, pain on swallowing, severe diarrhoea or a severe sunburn-like rash. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
