Glycomet 500 SR Tablet is used to manage blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. It is also used in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to help manage insulin resistance and support more regular ovulation.
It contains metformin, a biguanide. It works by lowering the amount of glucose made by the liver and helping the body use insulin more effectively. The slow-release form releases the medicine gradually.
Take it by mouth as prescribed, ideally with food to reduce stomach upset. Diet, activity and regular blood sugar monitoring remain an essential part of treatment.
Tell your doctor about any kidney problems or other medicines before starting. Report extreme tiredness, muscle pain or rapid breathing, which can rarely signal a serious condition called lactic acidosis.
