Diarsec Tablet 10

Diarsec Tablet 10 is used in adults and adolescents above 12 years to treat acute and chronic diarrhoea, helping slow bowel movement and reduce stool frequency.

Uses of Diarsec Tablet 10 are:

• Acute Diarrhoea: Helps control frequent loose stools and abdominal cramps.
• Chronic Diarrhoea: Manages diarrhoea associated with inflammatory bowel disease.
• Ileostomy Support: Reduces stool output in patients with ileostomies.

Before you start taking Diarsec Tablet 10, here are some simple instructions to follow:

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
• Do not crush or chew the tablet.
• You can take this medicine with or without food.
• Do not take more than the doctor recommended without consulting them first.
• Remember, it's important not to stop taking this medicine without speaking to your doctor first.

Diarsec Tablet 10 is taken orally.

Diarsec Tablet 10 contains loperamide (2 mg), which acts on your body in the following ways:

• μ-Opioid Receptor Agonist: Loperamide acts on the μ-opioid receptors in your intestinal wall. These receptors are part of a complex system that controls how your intestines function.
• Reduces Propulsive Peristalsis: By acting on these receptors, loperamide inhibits the release of certain substances, like acetylcholine and prostaglandins, which produce wave-like movements in the intestines called peristalsis. This slows down this movement.
• Increases Fluid and Electrolyte Absorption: The slowdown in intestinal movement allows more time to absorb fluid and electrolytes from your gut into your body.
• Increases Anal Sphincter Tone: Loperamide also increases the muscle tone of your anal sphincter, effectively controlling stool passage.

The overall effect of these actions is a decrease in gut motility and fluid secretion, leading to firmer stools.

• Keep Diarsec Tablet 10 stored at room temperature below 30°C.
• Protect it from light and dampness, so avoid bathrooms and kitchens.
• Don't put the medicine in the fridge or freezer.
• Always keep the medicine out of reach and sight of children.

• If you're managing acute or chronic diarrhoea with Diarsec Tablet 10, consider eating a bland diet. Foods like rice, bananas, toast, and applesauce can help firm up loose stools.
• Stay hydrated; loose stools can cause you to lose more water and salt than normal. Drink plenty of fluids, preferably oral rehydration solutions that contain sugar and salts, to replenish these losses.
