Deriphyllin Retard 300 Tablet is used to manage asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It contains Etofylline and Theophylline, bronchodilators that help relax the muscles in the airways, making it easier to breathe.

Here's how you should use Deriphyllin Retard 300 Tablet:

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

• Refrain from crushing, chewing, or breaking the tablet.

• It is advisable to take the medicine with or right after meals to minimise stomach upset.

• Using more than the recommended dose without consulting your doctor is not recommended.

• Remember that stopping this medicine abruptly without speaking to your doctor first could cause problems.

Deriphyllin Retard 300 Tablet contains two active ingredients:

• Etophylline (231 mg): This ingredient functions by relaxing the smooth muscles in your airways and lungs. It inhibits an enzyme in your body known as phosphodiesterase, which breaks down an important molecule called cyclic AMP. By doing so, it increases levels of cyclic AMP leading to bronchodilation. This essentially means that it opens up your airways making it easier for air to pass through.

• Theophylline (69 mg): Working in a similar manner to etofylline / etophylline, this ingredient also relaxes and opens up your airways. Additionally, it has anti-inflammatory effects and can improve the contraction of your diaphragm — a muscle involved in breathing — which potentially enhances your breathing ability.

This combined action of both ingredients contributes towards managing and preventing symptoms related to asthma and COPD.

• If you're a smoker, try to quit or at least reduce your smoking. Smoking can lower the effectiveness of Deriphyllin Retard 300 Tablet.

• Try to limit your intake of caffeinated drinks like tea, coffee, and energy drinks as caffeine has additive stimulant effects with this medicine.
