CompositionThyrox 12.5 Tablet is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It is a single-ingredient thyroid hormone medicine containing levothyroxine (thyroxine).
It replaces the thyroid hormone the body lacks, helping restore normal energy, metabolism and mood, and it is also used to help manage goitre. Take it on an empty stomach, at least 30 to 60 minutes before your first meal, at a fixed time, in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop it without medical advice, as it is usually a lifelong treatment.
Keep a gap of a few hours between this tablet and calcium or iron supplements and antacids, which can reduce its absorption. Regular blood tests guide your dose.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have heart problems or diabetes and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. A rapid heartbeat, sweating, shaking or weight loss can mean the dose is too high, so report these promptly. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
