Rifagut 550 Tablet is a medicine used to manage gut conditions caused by harmful intestinal bacteria, including hepatic encephalopathy (confusion and mental changes caused by liver disease), irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea (IBS-D), and infectious diarrhoea. It contains rifaximin, an antibiotic that works mainly within the intestine.
Take it exactly as directed by your doctor and complete the full course of treatment, particularly in cases of liver disease, where long-term use may be required. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Do not take more or less than prescribed.
During treatment, eat smaller, regular meals and stay well hydrated. If you have liver disease, avoid alcohol entirely and follow any dietary guidance your doctor has given regarding protein intake, which can affect ammonia levels in the body.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any liver problems, inflammatory bowel disease, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as rifaximin can interact with certain drugs. Report any worsening of symptoms, new fever, or blood in the stool to your doctor right away.
