Rcifax 550 Tablet is used to treat traveller's diarrhoea and irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea (IBS-D) in adults, and to reduce the risk of repeated episodes of hepatic encephalopathy in people with liver disease.
It contains rifaximin, an antibiotic that acts mainly within the gut against susceptible bacteria. Take it as prescribed, and complete the full course when it is used for a bacterial infection, even if your symptoms improve early.
Maintain good hydration throughout treatment, particularly if you have diarrhoea, and eat plain, easily digestible food until your symptoms settle. Keep track of how often you are passing stools so you can report any changes to your doctor.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have severe liver disease or are taking other medicines. Contact your doctor promptly if you develop a high fever, or if your diarrhoea becomes severe or contains blood or mucus. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by your doctor.
