This medicine helps reduce swelling, pain and immune activity in conditions affecting the joints, skin, eyes, lungs, blood and digestive tract. Take it with food or milk in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop it suddenly, as the dose usually needs to be reduced gradually under medical guidance.
Long-term steroid use can weaken bones and raise blood sugar, so eat a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, limit salt and added sugar, and do regular weight-bearing exercise as advised. Avoid close contact with people who have chickenpox or measles, as this medicine can lower your resistance to infection.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have any infection, diabetes, high blood pressure, a stomach ulcer or mental health concerns, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Long-term use needs regular checks of blood sugar, blood pressure and bone health. Ask your doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
