Oxetol 450 Tablet is used to control focal-onset (partial) seizures, with or without spreading to both sides of the brain, in adults and children aged 6 years and above. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing oxcarbazepine 450mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called antiepileptics.
This medicine can be used on its own or with other epilepsy medicines. It calms overactive nerve signals in the brain. Take it daily with or without food, as prescribed; your doctor will start low and increase the dose gradually.
Keeping regular sleep, avoiding alcohol and never missing doses help control seizures. Keep a seizure diary to share with your doctor.
Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as seizures may return. People of Asian origin may be tested for a gene called HLA-B*1502, which is linked to a higher risk of severe skin reactions; stop and seek medical help straight away for a spreading rash, blistering or mouth ulcers. Oxcarbazepine can lower blood sodium, so report headache, confusion, drowsiness or more frequent seizures. It can make hormonal contraceptives less effective, so use another method as advised. Before starting, tell your doctor about kidney or liver disease, heart rhythm problems, previous reactions to carbamazepine, and all other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
